Kaizen Description

In the context of the Vitrox AOI machine, the Presence/Absence method is employed to detect coil upside-down orientation. This approach involves detecting the physical presence or absence of key features on the coil that should be oriented in a specific way, ensuring that the coil is properly aligned during the manufacturing process.

Before Situation

Previously, we configured the AOI system using the OCI approach to detect coil upside-down orientation. However, this method was unreliable because the component exhibited similar reflectivity and surface characteristics under the existing lighting setup. As a result, upside-down coils could still pass inspection due to insufficient contrast and non-distinct optical features

After Situation

We have now transitioned to using the Presence/Absence detection method for coil upside-down orientation verification, replacing the previous OCI-based approach. This new method leverages key feature detection, where the system inspects specific markers or geometrical features on the coil that should be consistently visible in the correct orientation. By employing this technique, the system can effectively differentiate between correctly and incorrectly oriented coils, even in cases where lighting conditions are uniform, and reflectivity issues previously allowed defective parts to pass undetected. As a result of implementing this Presence/Absence detection method, the occurrence of defects caused by incorrectly oriented coils has been significantly reduced, improving overall yield and product quality
